Generally when the Ford 2.4 TDCI engine fails it seems to be the same re-occurrence: Heating issues. The cylinder heads on these engines tend to gain small fractures or cracks between the inlet and exhaust valve ports on the face of the cylinder head. Over time with the heat these fractures get larger and larger until eventually it is large enough to allow the oil and water to mix.The other issue that occasionally arises on these engine types is scoring or damage on the camshafts, especially the exhaust camshaft. The Cam lobes get scored, worn and sometimes even break completely causing even more damage.

It is important to look after your engine and with this Ford Transit 2.4 TDCI unit I cannot stress that enough. Make sure your water is topped up with the correct anti-freeze to try and avoid the overheating issues however having said that the parts for these engines are easily accessible and fairly cheap meaning in comparison to other engines it is more feasible to fix if things do go wrong. On top of that like most modern common rail diesels that suffer with injector issues these tend not to. Look after it, and it should look after you.
